FAQ

How do I contact you?
Click here to fill out the “contact” form. I will email or call you (depending on your preference) shortly after I receive your message!

How much does tutoring cost?
Hour-long sessions are generally $85-115 / hour, dependent on the content and prep work. I can offer discounted rates for two students who wish to share their sessions. Please contact me to discuss this option.

What form of payment do you accept?
Zelle, personal check, cash, PayPal

What days and times do you tutor?
My availability will vary throughout the year. Typically I tutor on weekday evenings and weekend mornings.

Where do tutoring sessions take place?
Now that so many of us are comfortable with and appreciate the convenience of video-conferencing, my students and I primarily use Zoom to meet online as opposed to in-person.

I am also open to in-person tutoring if that works best for a student. In this case, I primarily meet with students on the north and northwest sides of Chicago, as well as the near suburbs. We would determine a location that is convenient for both of us; often a public library works best.

My student has specialized learning needs. Do you work with these students?
Yes. Please contact me to discuss your student’s needs.

Do you work with students whose first language is not English?
Yes. Please contact me to discuss your student’s needs.

My student already has a decent rough draft of his/her college essay. Is it possible to schedule only one or two sessions with you to help with final revisions?
Yes. Please contact me so that we can discuss how many sessions your student needs and what our focus will be.

My student has a friend who also needs tutoring help. Can you tutor more than one student per session?
Yes. I offer a discounted per-student rate for 2 students who share 1 session. Please contact me to discuss this option.

What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours advance notice of a session cancellation. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged for the missed session.

With tutoring, can I expect my student to earn an “A”?
Although I would like all of my students to earn an “A,” receiving an “A” is not something I can guarantee. My purpose is to be another academic support for your student with the goal of seeing improvement in whatever areas we target together. My hope is that the reading, analyzing, and writing skills we will work on will help your student to be successful in not just his/her English class, but in other courses and beyond high school as well.
